From Porto: Braga and Guimaraes Day Trip
Known as the Rome of Portugal, Braga, and Guimarães, known as the crib of Portugal, offers to every visitors a rich historical experience! Explore this two unique cities!
After meeting our guide at the meeting point, we depart towards Braga. Along the way, enjoy the green landscapes of northern Portugal while learning about the country’s history and culture.
Braga is a deeply religious city, home to two of its main landmarks: the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus (UNESCO) and the Cathedral of Braga, the oldest in Portugal.
We begin at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, known for its monumental stairway, baroque details and panoramic views over the city.
Visit the Cathedral of Braga, a unique monument combining Romanesque, Manueline and Baroque styles, and one of the oldest in Portugal. - if the option is choosen
We then explore Braga’s historic centre, including its streets and the Santa Bárbara Garden, one of the most beautiful in the country.
Free time for lunch or personal exploration before continuing to Guimarães.
Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal and UNESCO World Heritage site, is where D. Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, was born.
We start with the Castle of Guimarães (if the option is choosen), followed by the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança and the Church of São Miguel.
We continue through the historic centre, with its medieval streets, squares and landmarks such as Martins Sarmento Square, Santa Maria Street and Santiago Square.
After free time, we return to Porto for drop-off.
